Research Cutter Uthörn
The operational range of the ship is the German Bight. She offers work places and accommodation for 2 scientists and 4 staff members during a total of 180 passage days per year. The Uthörn is used for the provision of sample material for visiting and AWI scientists. One wet and one dry laboratory (power supply 380/22 V, 50 Hz) are available. The Uthörn possesses a wide range of standard sampling devices, including demersal drawls, various kinds of dredges, Van-Veen-grab, different types of plankton nets, sensors, and Niskin bottles. For the handling of catches, sorting devices are available on deck and in the wet laboratory. It is possible to arrange short term cruises (ca. 2 h) for academic courses (max. 25 passengers) to demonstrate the use of standard sampling methods, e.g. dredge, plankton, and fish howls. The transport of catches from the ships berth to the lecture rooms for further handling can be arranged.
Please contact Dr. Reinhard Saborowski for information on available ship time. Please note a leading time of ca. 1 year for scheduling.
