Expedition Summary
Leg 8 of expedition ANT-XXIII serves the purpose of two scientific investigations:
- Biological investigations on fish stocks of the Antarctic Peninsula, around Elephant Island, South Shetland Islands, and off Joinville Island to analyze age distribution and to asses stock size. Contributes to CCAMLR.
- Ecosystem research in the former Larsen A/B ice shelf area east of the Antarctic Peninsula to investigate changes in biodiversity as a consequence of the climate-induced collapse of the ice shelf and to examine principles of ecological functionioning in the marine environment. Contributes to EBA & CAML.
Itinerary

- Around December 4/5, 2006: Supply of the Neumayer Station
- From December 14 on: Scientific work in the area of investigation
- January 26, 2007: End of Scientific work
- January 30, 2007: Arrival in Punta Arenas
