23rd Polar Libraries Colloquy - Call for Proposals
Cool Libraries in a Melting World
Second call for submission of proposals for papers and panel session presentations for:
The 23rd Polar Libraries Colloquy to be held 13th through 18th of June 2010 in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The Conference website is at:
http://www.awi.de/en/infrastructure/library/23rd_polar_libraries_colloquy/
We all know how both Polar Regions are affected by Global Warming. In the Arctic, communities living in the permafrost regions are especially confronted with lots of problems and it would be interesting to have some 'close-up' reports from the 'melting front' there. What are its impacts on libraries and what can they do to help public understanding?
Conference sessions are expected to include panel discussions of current topics and also research presentations.
Potential submissions might focus on:
- Sustaining libraries during an economic crisis
- Preservation of the cultural heritage – collection management of photographs, films and oral recordings
- Polar journals – discussion on focus & impact -
- Outreach of libraries and archives – use of new technologies for teaching and public interactions
- Providing and accessing Open Access literature through institutional repositories and other means
- The centenary of the historic dash for the South Pole by Scott and Amundsen -
- Adapting the library to 21st century needs
- Growing role of ebooks
- Innovative and customized services such as data publishing, data curation
- Collaborations and exchanges
- Marketing the library
Or suggest your own topic for a session!
