Co-management processes in integrated coastal management: The case of integrating marine aquaculture (mariculture) in offshore wind farms
In the frame of the large platform project “Coastal Futures” I am theoretically examining prospects of a combined offshore wind farm – mariculture use in the German Exclusive Economic Zone and its adjacent coastal waters. The focus of this thesis will be on the presumably unavoidable interrelation between the two principal potential adopters of such a multiple-use setting: mussel fishermen/farmers as potential future mariculture operators and offshore wind farm developers/operators. Their specific attitudes, perceptions and comprehension of a multiple-ocean use setting as well as respective intrinsic resources available for cross-linking two different business sectors shall be examined. By taking into account inherent experience and knowledge, I aim to propose a framework as well as suitable management strategies for governing a cross-sectoral management arena in offshore locations.
