Type repository

The Hustedt collection houses type slides and material deposited by external researchers for taxonomic referencing (at the moment, around 3800 types by more than 100 authors). Meta-data and publication information on deposited slides is entered into the collection database and is thus available to the scientific community through the database web interface (try Taxon find; type "*type" into the field "Type", as shown on the left, to see a current listing).

Type slides and material deposited in the Hustedt collection receive internal identifiers (accession numbers) after they are sent to us accompanied by basic collection information. In particular, please send us a description of the sampling locality that matches the publication describing the taxon concerned, and add geographic coordinates (latitude - longitude) when possible. Let us know in case you wish to make the information on the type concerned available through our database only after the actual publication of the article describing it. Once the article describing a taxon for which the type was deposited in the Hustedt collection is published, we welcome a reprint or at least a reference to the final publication. This is then added to our database records.

It is possible for researchers to deposit loose material alongside type slides and we encourage them to do so, as these have proven to be an invaluable addition for electron microscopic investigations.
