Longterm Ecological Research
Benthic populations in the eastern North Sea
Current results indicate that most benthic populations occupy large spatial scales, both parallel and perpendicular to the coastline. Examples are razor clams Ensis americanus in the coastal North Sea and the short-term temporal spatial variation of the polychaete Scoloplos armiger. Current research tries to test the assumption that the temporal variations of benthic populations perpendicular to the coastline are linked to the hydrographic situation during the larval and early benthic phase.
